Artist: Gasediel
Gasediel is a French artist. Her inspiration comes directly from themes linked to wild graffiti, to the remains of torn illegal posters associated with the natural wear and tear of time. Her attraction to things that have experience, imbalances, and breaks make her see a certain form of poetry on the forgotten walls of the city. In the impermanence of these settings, it captures and directs our gaze to what we see as an offense to order, to good taste, as a visual aggression. She then invites us to recognize and feel the artistic and poetic richness of the signs drawn, pasted, painted on the walls, transformed by the inevitable passage of time. In this sense, she finds in Brassai (artist 1899-1984) and particularly in his work on “the language of the wall” a means of consolidating and intellectualizing her research.
There is consistency in the support used by Gasediel, it is accidental. By coating its supports with a thin layer of concrete and using construction coatings, it seeks to recreate the roughness and porosity of these damaged surfaces. She works mainly in acrylic, using rough edges to trigger the unexpected.
